The Via Tenera, named after the Latin name for the Dendre River, forms the central axis of the St James pilgrimage routes in Belgium. It enters Wallonia between Grammont and Lessines. It leads to Rombies-Marchipont, a border village from where the Via Septemtriones Templi departs, leading to Saint-Quentin.
You will appreciate the bucolic character of the path between Deux-Acren and Ath. An exceptional heritage awaits you in Lessines. Centuries-old pilgrimage sites dot the route around Chièvres, including the Basilica of Tongre-Notre-Dame.
You will reach the French border by following the Pommeroeul Canal to Condé-sur-Escaut, finally taking the road to Valenciennes and Saint-Quentin.
