Where to sleep?
Find your refuge on the Camino de Santiago

Planning where to rest at night is as important as choosing the right path to take.
On this page, you will discover, in Brussels and Wallonia, a range of accommodation options for pilgrims on their way to Santiago.

Thanks to our reception chain, you benefit from a selection of accommodation in Belgium, perfectly integrated into the international networks of the Way. Each address has been carefully selected for its quality of welcome and authenticity, ensuring you a restful night after a day of walking.

The available accommodations fall into three categories:

  • Those operating on the principle of "Donativo", i.e. without an imposed tariff;
  • Those offering accommodation and possibly catering for a modest PAF (Cost Contribution)
  • Commercial establishments that offer a preferential rate for pilgrims.

What is the Donativo?

The "Donativo" is a voluntary donation concept used in some accommodations on pilgrimage routes.
These establishments do not charge a fixed rate for accommodation; Instead, they invite pilgrims to make a contribution according to their means and will.

This system allows pilgrims of all budgets to find accommodation and highlights a spirit of sharing and community on the way.

Sleeping in Belgium

If you are a pilgrim and are looking for accommodation in Belgium, you can rely on the reception chain of our Association to find a suitable place.

The hosts listed on our list welcome you with dedication, eager to offer you the best possible welcome.

In return, they deserve respect and consideration.
We therefore encourage pilgrims to:

  • Book their accommodation 24 hours in advance;
  • Arrive at their host's home at a reasonable time and in case of problems, notify the host as soon as possible;
  • Get rid of their backpacks, rain gear, walking boots according to the recommendations of their host;
  • Inquire about their host's habits and schedules and comply with them;
  • Be respectful of the order and cleanliness of the house;
  • Spontaneously pay their contribution to the accommodation costs;
  • Make sure to be discreet and to warn of the time of their departure;
  • Do not consider that the principle of "Donativo" is synonymous with "gratuitousness";
  • For cyclists, please inquire about a secure and if possible covered place to leave your bike overnight.

Would you like to welcome pilgrims to your home?

Do you dream of continuing the adventure of your Camino de Santiago in your daily life?
Then welcoming and hosting pilgrims in your home will allow you to experience the other side of Jacobean hospitality. We can list your home or accommodation on our website.
In order to guarantee a respectful and rewarding welcome for all, our association will invite you to adhere to a set of principles widely recognised by Jacobean associations by signing the association's Charter for Hosts.

We encourage hosts to have practical experience of life on the Camino de Santiago. We invite them to become members of the association in order to support its work in the service of pilgrims and to keep in touch with the changing needs of pilgrims and the atmosphere of the pilgrimage.

To ensure the integrity of our hospitality chain, most hosts ask to see your Credencial; They will also be able to stamp it.
This precaution helps to distinguish people who are motivated by a real pilgrim motivation.

Sleeping in France or Spain

For accommodation located outside Belgium, we recommend that you consult the recent topoguides of the route you are following and/or contact sister associations that can offer you trusted hospitallers.

The Hospitallers also play a key role in providing a place of rest and meeting for pilgrims beyond the Belgian borders.

Would you like to welcome pilgrims to your home?

It is also possible to become a hospitaller without owning a personal home. For example, you can commit to welcoming pilgrims in a Jacobean cottage located in Saint-Palais, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, with which our association has a partnership agreement. Other opportunities also exist thanks to our contacts with sister pilgrim associations.

This option is ideal for those who wish to actively participate in welcoming pilgrims but do not have their own reception area. Following a training course recognised by some Jacobean federations will help you to live this service with the best chance of success.
