Pèlerin de Saint Jacques, lève-toi et marche ! is the fruit of the author's pilgrim experience and ten years' work, summed up in a single volume. He has read nearly 170 books on the subject, and many selected quotations illustrate his remarks. A pilgrim to Medugorjé in 1984, and to Rome and Lisieux in 1985, the author is also a Compostela pilgrim, and has travelled various Ways of St James. Le Puy-en-Velay in 1993, the Swiss route from Constance to Geneva in 1995, the Arles route in 1997 and 1998, the Pyrenean Piedmont route to Lourdes in 2004, Cluny-Le-Puy-en-Velay in 2005, Geneva-Le-Puy-en-Velay in 2006 and the Camino Francès in 1990 and 2001.
The aim of this essay - and it succeeds in doing so - is to inspire people to set off on the Camino de Santiago. Pilgrims to Compostela are often walkers of the Absolute who wish to live out their faith. The Pilgrim's Way to Santiago has its own spirituality, which pilgrims discover and experience both on the way and on their return home. It is this spirituality that the author has tried to communicate here.
Pierre Genin has been President of the Belgian Association of Friends of Santiago de Compostela since 1997. The author has walked almost 10,000 kilometres on the pilgrimage routes of Europe. More than twenty years passed between his first pilgrimage and the publication of this book, which takes a closer look at the mystery of the Compostellan pilgrimage.
"Yes, it's possible, you too can become a pilgrim! And what's more, you'll remain a pilgrim long after you've completed your journey... "
Ultreia, pilgrim! The Pilgrim's Way to Santiago is beautiful, long, difficult but fascinating!
