Meet at 10.00 am in front of Tongeren station. Easy 25 km route
After crossing the historic center of Tongeren, we will follow a small path along the Geer River, then, across fields, reach Rutten (Russon), where we will pass the Church of Saint Martin, the statue and chapel of Saint Evermarus, who was murdered there with his seven companions on his return from Santiago de Compostela at the end of the 7th century.
We will follow the Geer River again, passing near the imposing Church of Saint Peter in Lauw (Lowaige), and then make a brief foray into the province of Liège. Upon reaching the vicinity of Otrange Castle, we will leave the Via Limburgica and cross back into Flanders to join the regional GR "Haspengouw" trail, which will take us back to Tongeren, passing by the old marl quarries of Vechmaal (Waterkuil Nature Reserve), Widooie Castle, St. Pancras Church, and the Beukenberg (ancient Roman aqueduct).
